Mekong: ‘one river, six countries and unlimited experiences’

The river runs through six countries - Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam - and is the tourism promotion motto of Mekong Tourism, created in 2005.

Moreover, there have been several promotion activities in the region, the big news being the launch of the entity's first promotional video, first presented at the Cambodia Travel Mart 2019, which took place last October in Phnom Penh.

Mekong Tourism, led by Jens Thraenhart, has always sought to promote sustainable and responsible tourism and authentic experiences. Incidentally, the theme of the Mekong Tourism Forum, which will take place in May 2020 in Bagan, Myanmar, will be "Achieving Balanced Tourism".

Since its beginning, the organisation has launched several initiatives: MIST - Mekong Innovative Startups in Tourism; Mekong Trends; Experience Mekong Collection and Showcase; Mekong Stories; Mekong Moments; and Mekong Minis. A funny fact about some of these campaigns is that they challenge tourists to boost them by proposing the use of program-related hashtags along with their images and videos on social media.

One of the initiatives is Mekong Minis - Mekong Mini Movie Festival, which in its first edition, in 2018, had 500 participants who published their videos with a maximum of 60 seconds. The hashtag reached 220,000 followers, and videos had over 1.2 million views, reaching 22 million people.
