The German has vast international experience in luxury chains, leaving Asia, where he spent the last 18 years.

The W Algarve opened its doors two years ago and now has a new general manager, the German Christian Humbert, who is leaving the Asian market to take over the management of the first W brand hotel in Portugal.

With a career in luxury hospitality spanning more than 20 years, Christian Humbert has worked as Director of Sales and Marketing at The St. Regis Beijing and The St. Regis Bali Resort. Also as Director of Sales and Marketing, he was part of the opening team at W Retreat - Koh, where he was also Director for five months.

Christian Humbert then deepened his hotel pre-opening experience as General Manager of W Bangkok, and was promoted to General Manager of Le Meridien Bangkok in 2014.

Two years later, Christian Humbert returned to China to open the W Shanghai - The Bund, where he was responsible for the pre-opening and for positioning the hotel on the luxury lifestyle scene.

His career then took off as general manager of The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong. Now Christian Humbert returns to the W brand as General Manager of the W Algarve.

"It is with great enthusiasm that I return to Europe to take over the management of the W Algarve, a hotel that is still in its infancy and has already changed the landscape of luxury hospitality in Portugal. Hospitality and the world of hospitality allow us to show love, care and have fun at the same time. I'm looking forward to continuing Cajetan Araújo's excellent work," says Christian Humbert, general manager of the W Algarve.
