Serbia was present at Conventa, an international trade fair dedicated to the events industry, to reinforce its position as a business destination.

It also sought to promote Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade, which will take place in the country's capital between 15 May and 15 August 2027.

Speaking to Event Point, Dejan Crnomarkovic, from the Serbian Convention Bureau, emphasised that participation in the fair is strategic: ‘It is important for us to show the world Serbia as a destination for business events, especially in light of the Specialised Expo that will take place next year in Belgrade.’

International ambition

Among the main arguments presented to international buyers are air connectivity, hotel offerings and infrastructure for conferences and conventions. ‘Serbia is a dynamic and complete destination for business events, with excellent connectivity, hotels and high-quality conference centres,’ he said.

The Specialised Expo is seen as a milestone for the country and the region. According to the official, it is ‘a real game changer, not only for Belgrade and Serbia, but also for the entire region,’ adding that it will be the largest event ever held in that part of Europe. ‘If this year's biggest event in the world is the Olympic Games, next year it will be the Expo in Belgrade,’ he said.

In addition to Belgrade

Although Belgrade attracts most of the attention, the Convention Bureau promotes other destinations in the country, such as Novi Sad, Serbia's second largest city.

Dejan Crnomarkovic describes Novi Sad as a combination of ‘culture, history, gastronomy and spas’, complemented by natural landscapes and intangible heritage. Among the highlights of its identity are Kolo, a traditional dance, and Slivovica, the country's emblematic plum brandy.

Internationally, Serbia is focusing mainly on neighbouring and European markets, with a special focus on Scandinavia, as well as North America and China.

Its presence at Conventa is part of this strategy to raise awareness among hosted buyers and international organisers, at a time when the country is preparing to host a global event with a direct impact on the visibility of its events industry.
