Sarawak used IBTM World Barcelona to unveil the Sarawak Destination Legacy Report: A Decade of Transformation, marking ten years of building a globally recognised legacy strategy in business events.

The report highlights Sarawak’s evolution since the creation of the Sarawak Convention Bureau in 2006, the shift from MICE to business events in 2019, the launch of its legacy campaign in 2020, and international recognition in 2021 with the ICCA Best Marketing Award. In 2025, the destination introduced AI.Legacy, a system measuring long-term event impact, and is now preparing a legacy-driven ecosystem for 2026–2030.
The announcement also included updates on the Borneo Legacy Declaration and the upcoming launch of the Business Events Sarawak Alliance (BESA), designed to strengthen collaboration across government ministries.

Five key takeaways from Sarawak’s legacy journey

• Believe in the cause and long-term commitment
• Align your destination’s values and objectives
• Be ready to disrupt the ecosystem
• Strengthen partnerships beyond the business events sector
• Expect the role of CVBs to evolve

Sarawak also presented ten legacy case studies powered by the AI.Legacy system, reinforcing its ambition to become a global model for measurable legacy impact in business events.
