Valencia's year as European Green Capital will feature more than 400 activities to transform the city and leave a legacy for the future.
The city of Valencia is the European Green Capital 2024. At a ceremony held at the Palau de la Música, the programme of events and projects that will be launched during the year was presented.
The city has a privileged location, facing the Mediterranean Sea, and boasts natural and protected areas such as the Albufera and the Turia Gardens. These are all key points of this year's initiatives, to which will be added other ongoing projects, such as the new Central Park, which will add 230,000 m² of green spaces to the city centre.
At the presentation, a guide called "Valencia's Green Routes" was unveiled, a manual that includes the objectives of this year's European Green Capital, as well as a set of routes to make it easier to enjoy the city's achievements in terms of sustainability.
2024 will be a year of major international events, but also of local events. And it will involve both citizens and visitors. For this year, a programme has been designed that includes meetings such as the major conference on "Mission cities" and a conference on wetlands, in which the Albufera Natural Park will be highlighted as an important asset.
In addition, there will be different celebrations resulting from public-private collaboration, which will complete the programme to ensure the involvement of the whole city.
