Portugal: Best European Destination at the World Travel Awards

Portugal was considered, for the fourth consecutive year, the Best Destination in Europe in the 2020 edition of the World Travel Awards (Europe), the 'Oscars of Tourism'.

The distinction was awarded by professionals in the industry, and the ceremony took place this year in a virtual format.

Porto won Best City Break Destination in Europe, Lisbon was distinguished as the Best European Cruise Destination and the Algarve is once more the Best Beach Destination in Europe, with a total of 21 awards credited to Portugal in the various categories.

“It is with particular pride that we received this award, in this uncharacteristic year”, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rita Marques, noted. “It is yet another proof of international confidence in our destiny and an acknowledgment that Portugal's attributes remain intact and ready to be discovered by all those who wish to visit us, always respecting the rules defined by the authorities. Health, protection and trust are unquestionable synonyms of our national tourist offer ”, she added.

The world edition winners will be known on November 27th.
