Macau applies for UNESCO's City of Gastronomy

The Government of Macao has announced its application to the UNESCO Network of Creative Cities in the Gastronomy category.

The Government of Macao has announced its application to the UNESCO Network of Creative Cities in the Gastronomy category. This Network is intended to promote cities in which creativity, in its various spheres, is a strategic factor for local and international development.

The Network already has 116 cities in the categories of Arts and Crafts, Design, Cinema, Gastronomy, Literature, Multimedia Arts, and Music.

Chengdu and Shunde in China, Phuket in Thailand, Tsuroka in Japan and Jeonju in South Korea feature in the Gastronomy category representing Asia.

Macu gastronomy is considered a type of fusion cuisine of Chinese and Portuguese inspiration, and is influenced by the Portuguese colonies in Africa, South America and India, and also by Southwest Asia countries, such as Thailand, Japan and Malaysia.
